If you’ve ever been curious about why Cher tends to date younger men rather than someone her own age, the iconic star has a straightforward explanation that actually makes quite a bit of sense.
In a recent appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, the 77-year-old entertainer shared a perfectly reasonable explanation for her preference for younger romantic partners.
While discussing the time she turned down Elvis, Cher admitted that she is “really shy” around men, particularly when she is not collaborating with them professionally.
Then, without any prompting, she explained, “The reason I go out with young men is because men my age are older — well, now they’re all dead — but before, they were always too intimidated to approach me. And younger men were the only ones that…”
“They’re bold,” Jennifer Hudson interjected.
“Yeah, raised by women like me,” Cher concluded.
Her comments follow the public’s intense interest in her relationship with Alexander “AE” Edwards, who is 40 years younger than her, drawing attention from both fans and the media.
When questioned about Edwards’ potential motives, Cher responded on X (formerly Twitter), “Let Me Explain…I DONT GIVE A [flying] FK WHAT ANYONE THINKS.”
Edwards, 37, is a music executive and he shares a son with Amber Rose – who is an American model and rapper.
Cher and Edwards’ relationship became social media official in 2022 when the icon posted a screenshot of the exec alongside his name and a red heart emoji.
Throughout their relationship, the couple have made public appearances together and in an interview with People magazine, Cher admitted that she isn’t shocked by the attention their romance has received.
The Burlesque star recalled that after meeting the father-of-one ‘for about 15 minutes’ at Paris Fashion Week a year ago, she discovered that a mutual friend of the pair had given him the singer’s number. “It was really shocking because people just don’t give out my number. I had been telling all my friends, ‘We’re too old to go out with really younger men, and I will never fall in love on text’. So I did what I said not to do!” Cher said.
The singer went on to gush that she broke her own rules as Edwards is ‘just so special’ and when it comes to the concerns surrounding their age-gap relationship, Cher insists she isn’t worried.
She explained: “No matter what happens, I love being with him. He makes me laugh, and we have fun. “What I learned is that it’s never too late.”
It’s 2024, and there shouldn’t be a need to justify whom we choose to date. As long as it’s not harming anyone, let people love who they love.
