“Don’t judge a book by its cover” is an old saying, but it’s always worth remembering.
When a parent doesn’t fit the typical appearance you expect, judging them based on looks alone can be deeply unfair.
This dad faced harsh criticism for the tattoos on his face, with others labeling him a horrible father. However, his wife shared some surprising information that left everyone shocked. Read on to discover the full story…
Self-expression is a fundamental aspect of individuality, and tattoos provide a unique medium for people to express themselves through art. Richard Huff, a 51-year-old with over 240 tattoos, has embraced this form of self-expression wholeheartedly.
Known as a self-proclaimed ink addict, Huff balances his passion for tattoos with family life, raising five children with his wife. His wife frequently shares videos and pictures of him with their kids, though these posts often receive mixed reactions from viewers.

Reflecting on his journey, Huff shared, “It became an addiction. I started with my legs and worked my way up.”
Richard Huff shared how his journey with tattoos began: “It became an addiction. I started with my legs and worked my way up,” he said, noting that 85% of his body is now covered in ink. Among his many tattoos are the names of his children and a tattoo of his daughter’s lips.
Richard has ambitious plans for his body art. “I want to be 100% covered in tattoos probably within the next four years,” he shared. “I don’t know if it’s the pain or the artwork, but it just becomes fascinating when you’re able to do this.”
However, having so many tattoos comes with its own set of challenges. Richard admitted that some kids at his children’s school find his appearance intimidating. His daughter has responded to this, saying, “They say, ‘Ah, it’s a bit scary,’ and I say, ‘No, my dad is not scary; he just has tattoos.’”
RICHARD’S WIFE, MARITA, ALSO HAD INITIAL RESERVATIONS. “I DID JUDGE RICHARD BASED ON HIS LOOKS AT FIRST, BUT AS I GOT TO KNOW HIM, I REALIZED HE IS ACTUALLY A BIG-HEARTED PERSON,” SHE SAID.
Marita frequently writes in her blog about her husband’s love and devotion, often praising him as a dedicated husband and loving father. She also highlights his role as a caring father to his three children from previous marriages, showing that Richard is much more than his tattoos.
Richard revealed, “I’m actively involved in the PTA, attending all my children’s events.” Despite laying bare his compassionate nature, he remains subject to criticism. One critique lamented, “I harbor no aversion to tattoos, but must he adorn his face so conspicuously?”
Amidst the criticism, defenders rallied around Richard, with one asserting, “Let him be. He’s a devoted father who happens to like his face tattoo.” In response to the critique, Richard reflected, “Those who pass negative judgment reveal more about themselves than about me.” He emphasized, “Our family’s happiness is paramount; our choices reflect that.” Despite any familial discord, he affirmed his enduring love.
Richard adamantly refuted the notion that his tattoos compromised his parenting, stating, “Tattoos don’t define me as a father; they enrich my children’s understanding of diversity.” Indeed, some struggle to reconcile the tattooed image with the devoted family man they encounter.
Richard Huff emerges as a caring husband and father deeply cherished by his loved ones. His story serves as a reminder that appearances can be deceiving, and true character lies beyond surface impressions.
