The iconic house in Winnetka, Illinois, where Kevin McCallister outwitted two clumsy burglars in the 1990 film “Home Alone,” is on the market for the first time in over a decade. The list price is $5.25 million.
The McCallister family home, located in the upscale Chicago suburb of Winnetka, is a large, three-story brick house. This historic Georgian-style residence, built in 1921 and situated at 671 Lincoln Avenue, features 9,126 square feet of living space, including five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and both indoor and outdoor hot tubs. It also boasts four fireplaces, a renovated kitchen with an open floor plan and sunroom, and a basement with a basketball court and home theater. The house is listed as one of the most expensive neighborhoods in the United States, according to Realtor.com.
Fans of the beloved Christmas classic will recognize parts of the house, particularly its exterior, foyer, and the main staircase where Kevin, played by Macaulay Culkin, famously sledded. Despite many interior scenes being filmed on sets at a nearby high school, the house still draws fans. The film crew even built an exterior staircase to the basement for the movie, which can still be seen today.
Since the movie’s release in November 1990, the house has become a tourist attraction. The Chicago Sun-Times reported that 400 cars visited the house on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day of 1990. The filmmakers returned to shoot additional scenes for “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” in 1991.
In 2021, the house gained additional attention when up to four fans were allowed to spend a night there as part of an Airbnb marketing campaign, with Devin Ratray, who played Kevin’s brother Buzz, welcoming guests.
This listing is a rare opportunity to own a piece of cinematic history.
